KULAI: For locking in his wife at home and injuring her over a misunderstanding, a security guard was fined RM3,000 by a magistrate’s court.

Jefrie Mohd Arif, 37, pleaded guilty to intentionally hurting his wife Nor Nazillah Musa, 35, at their house in Jalan Padi Mahsuri 9, Taman Senai Baru between May last year and February this year.

According to the statement of facts, Jefrie and his wife, who is a sales assistant, had a misunderstanding in March last year and he began locking her at home.

He had been stopping her from going out since May last year.

On Feb 4 this year, she managed to flee from home and ran to the Senai police station, where she lodged a report against her husband.

Jefrie, who limped into the dock, said he suffered from kidney stones.

He admitted hitting his wife on the head, arms, legs and body throughout that period.

In the victim impact statement read out by magistrate Ahmad Farid Ahmad Kamal yesterday, Jefrie’s wife said that she was traumatised and afraid after what happened.

She was scared each time she heard her husband’s voice, she said.

Her husband had often hurt her, she said, adding that her mind kept replaying the times when he hit and injured her.

“I hope he can change and learn from this and will take good care of me after this if we are still together. I will work to fend for myself and our child,” Ahmad Farid read, adding that Jefrie’s wife would consider seeking a divorce.

Jefrie was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

Ahmad Farid fined Jefrie RM3,000 in default three months’ jail. He did not pay the fine.

“A wife is your responsibility, not for you to commit such cowardly acts,” he said.

The prosecuting officer was Insp Siti Noriha Jamal @ A. Jalal while Jefrie was represented by K. Vijayan.
