Three killed, one hurt after car collides with two lorries

IPOH: Three people were killed and another was seriously injured in an accident invol­ving a car and two lorries in Kampung Kepayang near here.

P. Poonggothai, 57, her sister P. Tamarai Veni and her brother-in-law S. Manickam, 54, were killed instantly when the Perodua MyVi they were in collided with two lorries along Jalan Lahat-Simpang Pulai yesterday.

Poonggothai’s husband, who was also in the car, was seriously injured. Both the lorry drivers were unhurt.

The group of four was travelling from Puchong, Selangor, to Seri Iskandar in Perak when the accident occurred.

A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said firemen rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 1.04pm yesterday.

The four victims were trapped in the badly mangled car and had to be extricated by firemen using special tools.

Poonggothai’s husband was sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

The three bodies were also sent to the hospital for post-mortem.
