Man kills ex-wife, stepson after failed reconciliation attempt

KOTA KINABALU: A man allegedly killed his ex-wife and her stepson at a plantation after she refused to reconcile their marriage, in Sabah's east coast Kinabatangan district.
Azura Shima, 39, died on the way to the clinic while her stepson Basri Jamaluddin, 24, died on the spot due to severe stab wounds, at about 5.20am Monday.
Kinabatangan police chief Supt A. Sahak Rahmat said the suspect had earlier met with Azura to talk about reconciliation but she refused as he was abusive and always beat her during their frequent arguments.
"The suspect was believed to have met her at about 2pm a day earlier. He went to the house at the estate and stabbed the woman, who was sleeping in her room, the next morning," he said.
"After stabbing Azura, the suspect went to the other room and stabbed his stepson," he added.
Supt Sahak said the couple's 14-year-old son, who was sleeping in the room with Azura, woke up due to the commotion and saw the suspect standing beside her.
"The teenager was believed to have seen the suspect stab Azura at least once," he said.
The teenager only ran out of the house to ask neighbours for help after the suspect fled.
Supt Sahak urged those with information on the whereabouts of the suspect to call Asst Comm Yumpil Garai at 089-561890.
