TAPAH: There was no Deepavali celebration for the family of missing bus conductor Ng Ah Leng @ Mohan as his fate remains unknown.

He was believed to be one of several victims allegedly murdered by a family of four.

The murders were alleged to have been committed at a house-cum-workshop here.

His elder brother, Ng Chee Meng @Kurunadan, 47, said it had been weeks of agony waiting for confirmation if Ah Leng was indeed murdered by the suspects.

“What is there to celebrate when we have no idea what happened to him? Is he dead or alive, we don’t know,” said the salesman when met at the magistrate’s court here yesterday, where the suspects were brought to have their remand period extended.

The four were a 57-year-old mechanic, his wife, 54, and their two sons aged 20 and 17.

Ah Leng, who was not seen by his family since late 2012, is believed to be one of four people supposedly murdered by the four.

On Oct 26, the suspects were arrested at their house at Jalan Pahang here where the murders allegedly took place.

It was reported that the disappearance of land broker Jasbeer Singh had led police to the family’s dilapidated wooden house, where the victims were believed to have been beaten to death, their remains burnt and ashes scattered into a river behind the house.

Police have yet to officially release the identities of the victims, although the families of the four missing persons have come forward to say that their loved ones could be of those murdered.

Besides Ah Leng and Jasbeer, the other two missing are spare parts dealer Ng Chor Kee, who was reported missing last June and tour bus operator V. Gunawaty who disappeared last March.

At the court, the four suspects who were earlier remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations into Chor Kee’s murder, had their remand orders extended by another seven days until Nov 19. Prior to this, they had been remanded for 11 days in connection with Jasbeer’s disappearance.

A small crowd was seen gathered at the court compound as the main suspect was brought to court in a police vehicle at 8am.

The other three suspects arrived 10 minutes later in another police vehicle.

Ah Leng’s younger sister, Ng Umadevi, who was also there, vented her anger at the suspects.

“You murderers! You all killed our family! Why are you all covering your faces now?,” she shouted in Tamil as the suspects were led into a waiting police truck to be taken back to prison an hour later.

The 20-year-old suspect stared and her and uttered in Tamil: “Shut up, get out of here.
