Limited Media Access To 2015 Umno General Assembly

Ku Nan: Umno general assembly media coverage to be severely limited

PETALING JAYA: Media coverage of the 2015 Umno general assembly will be severely limited due to “some media spinning rubbish”, said party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
Instead, the media will only be allowed to cover press conferences given by Umno vice-presidents after the closed door meetings.
“Not the daily running of the general assembly, no,” he answered when asked to confirm reports that media will not be allowed to cover the general assembly.
“However, you can cover after we’ve finished our meetings. The two vice-presidents will be giving the daily run-ups. Every day we will do press conferences after our meetings at the press room,” he explained Wednesday.
He also said that the media would not be allowed to report on the speeches or debates of party delegates.
The ban will effect both mainstream and alternative media.
Press cards will still be issued to those who registered so that they may attend the press conference.
In the past, media have been given access to cover most, if not all, events during the party’s general assembly. This includes speeches and debates by party leaders and division delegates.
The assembly will be held from Dec 8-12.
