IGP: Charles Morais a coward for fleeing country

    THE STAR
KUALA LUMPUR: The country's top cop has called the younger brother of murdered deputy public prosecutor Datuk Kevin Morais a coward for fleeing the country in the wee hours after making allegations about the death.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said Charles left the country through Johor Baru around 1.30am Thursday, after making his allegations the previous evening.
"He is a very irresponsible man. This is a kind of "pukul curi" (hitting below the belt) on the Government, what kind of man is he?
"If you have evidence or information about a case, it is your duty to hand it over to the authorities," he said in a press conference at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here Saturday.
Khalid said police were currently tracing Charles' whereabouts through his lawyer Amerik Sidhu.
"We have opened a case against him under Section 202 of the Criminal Procedure Code for withholding information and 124L of the Penal Code for attempting to commit sabotage," he said.
Charles had claimed, in a statutory declaration released on Wednesday, that he had a pen drive containing information relating to Kevin's death, which implicated certain influential people in the country.
He had said the pen drive was currently in safe custody in the United States, and had left instructions for its contents to be disclosed should "anything untoward" happen to him after making the statutory declaration.
