KUALA LUMPUR: City Hall says it has corrected a poorly-worded welcome message to US President Barack Obama on its billboard.
The correction was made after a snapshot of the message on the electronic billboard went viral on social media.
KL Mayor Datuk Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz, in a text message to New Straits Times Online today, said the message has already been amended.
Checks showed that the message on the electronic billboards have been changed to ‘Malaysia Welcomes Asean Leaders.’
However, queries on what the text of the message had been changed to in the context of Obama, went unanswered.
Amin's message follows a posting on the billboard stating "Welcome to President of the USA Barack Obama" which went viral, leaving egg on City Hall's face.
The posting appeared on social networking sites on Friday when the US president touched down for the 27th Asean Summit and related summits.
As of noon today the story which the News Straits Times Online broke on the post has been read by 3,200 people and shared as many times.
The article spurred numerous comments, with some slamming City Hall for its poor use of English, while others called on critics to ‘ease up.’
