SINGAPORE: A Singapore Airlines flight from San Francisco via Hong Kong was delayed at Changi Airport for several hours after landing following a bomb threat made against the aircraft.

Flight SQ001 landed at noon on Sunday but passengers were reportedly only allowed to disembark at 2pm. Police vehicles were seen on the tarmac, according to The Straits Times.

The airline confirmed that a bomb threat was made against the flight, and that the matter was referred to the authorities.

"We regret we are unable to provide details as it concerns security," it said on its official Twitter account @SingaporeAir.

Police said in a statement that they conducted checks but nothing suspicious was found on the plane or its passengers.

It did not say where and how the threat was made.

Several people tweeted that passengers were made to undergo additional security checks, and that there were security issues with the checked baggage.

Twitter user @smokestorm23 asked why the flight had enhanced security checks that led to the four-hour delay.

Another user @jooliang1982 tweeted that the plane was on hold on the tarmac for an hour before passengers were let out.

@JeannieOng_Lim said she was greeted by many police officers. She also complained about the delay in collecting her baggage.

"Baggage claim for #SQ1 delayed due to additional security screening. We landed @ noon. It's 2.43pm now," she tweeted.

The incident came as a Turkish Airlines flight bound for Turkey from New York was diverted to Halifax, Canada, after a bomb threat, Canadian police said on Sunday.

Singapore hosts the offices and production facilities of thousands of multinational corporations and is South-East Asia’s main aviation hub.

Security officials have been on high alert since Islamic State militants claimed responsibility for attacks this month in Paris that killed 130 people. - WIRES
