Man gets 27 years’ jail, 78 strokes for impersonating PMO officer

JOHOR BARU: A 34-year-old man was sentence to 27 years' jail and 78 strokes of the cane by a magistrate's court here on Monday for cheating and for impersonating a special secretary from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
Mohd Ridzuan Alias pleaded guilty to all 79 charges read out to him under Section 419 and Section 420 of the Penal Code for impersonating and cheating respectively.
He admitted to obtaining a total of RM535,448 from two individuals as inducement to approve projects under the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry between Dec 2013 and Feb 2015.
Magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Alias handed out the sentence and ordered Mohd Ridzuan to serve his sentence starting from the date of his arrest on Oct 20.
