Seven Men, Woman Charged With Kidnap-Cum-Murder Of Businessman In Skudai
JOHOR BAHARU -- Seven men and a woman were charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with the abduction and murder of a businessman in Skudai here last September.
S. Rajandran, 38; Yang Gui Zhong, 23; Loo Wei Beng, 27; Lau Koon Ping, 42; Andy Teoh Wet Lun, 22; Leong Chiew Yang, 34; Lim Choon Ann, 22, and the woman, Yew Hooi Lyn, 33, were jointly charged with abducting Cheung Zi Hong, 22, for ransom of RM50,000.
The offence was committed at No 6, Jalan Sutera Utama 1/5, Taman Sutera Utama, Skudai here, about 1 pm last Sept 28.
The charge, under Section 31 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, provides a death sentence or life imprisonment and liable to whipping, if found guilty.
They are also charged with murdering Cheung at No 54, Jalan Hang Tuah 3, Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Skudai, at about 10.15 pm the same day.
The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
They all nodded their head after the charges were read, but no plea was recorded.
Magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Allias set Dec 7 for mention pending the post mortem report on the victim.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutors Mohd Taufik Sabri and Noor Farhana Adham, while only two of the accused were represented. They are Lau and yew, who are represented by lawyers GK Sritharan and Mohd Fazaly Ali Mohd Ghazaly.
