KUALA LUMPUR: Justice may be served for the woman who was brutally assaulted in a robbery in an elevator in Setapak Prima after eight people were arrested on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old woman, known only as Lim, was ganged up in an elevator by the two men, who slammed and kicked her around like a rag doll - just for the money in her purse on Oct 17.
The robbery, captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV), went viral on social media. The encounter left Lim with two broken teeth and bruises all over her body.
Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Mohd Roy Suhaimi Sarif said the first arrests were carried out in a hotel room along Jalan Kampung Batu.
"We arrested four men and a girl, ages 16 to 33, at the hotel. All are unemployed. The girl did not go to school.
"One of the men was positively identified as a suspect who was in the lift assaulting and robbing the woman. He was the one in a plaid shirt ," Supt Roy said.
The 26-year-old suspect has four previous criminal records for drug abuse and theft.

"We arrested a 25-year-old suspect at Taman Setapak Indah at 12.40pm the same day. He was identified as the driver of the getaway car, a Honda CRV, on the day of the robbery," Supt Roy added.

He said a 26-year-old jobless man, positively identified as the other suspect in the lift, was arrested in Taman Sri Ukay at 4pm. He has 11 criminal records.

A 33-year-old jobless man, owner of the Honda CRV, was picked up in Ukay Perdana, Ampang, at 5pm. He has four criminal records.

Supt Roy said police also recovered various items including the clothes used by the suspects, a stolen motorcycle and a Suzuki Swift.

"They drove the Swift back to the same condo the day after the robbery in search of the woman's car but did not find it.

"They had her car key and access card as the items were also in the stolen handbag," he said.

Supt Roy said all eight suspects, including the teenage girl, tested positive for methamphetamine.

Wangsa Maju police are liaising with their counterparts to determine whether the group had also committed offences in other districts.
