Caldbeck Macgregor Malaysia organized a " Burgundy Wine Dinner"  last night, showcasing Bouchard Pere & Fils and Willian Fevre Wines at the Gobo Upstairs Lounge and Grill in Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Those invited to the exclusive dinner were their top retailers, resellers and loyal customers.

The evening started with the host Caldbeck's Division Manager and Head of Marketing Ms, Sharon Lee welcoming guest at a pre-dinner cocktail held on the first floor of the hotel.

Ms, Sharon Lee
Laurent Vouillemin, the International Sales Director of Maisons & Domaines Henriot was present to give guest a brief about the wines from Bouchard Pere & Fils and William Fevre.

Mr.Lauren Vouillemin with Mr. Christian Nannucci
Traders Hotel General Manager Mr. Christian Nannucci and Communications Manager Ms. Theresa Goh were also present to welcome guest.

At the pre-dinner cocktail guest were welcomed with a glass of Rully Blanc white wine which should give you a taste that is Aromatic, Rich and perfectly balanced on the palate.

This was accompanied by a delicious smoked duck canape and  a king prawn cocktail with a shot of Belvedere Vodka. Both were so delicious I had to be polite and only have two each.

Duck, Prawns with shots of Vodka and Wine and this was just at the pre dinner cocktail .... I was wondering what next?.

After the cocktail guest were ushered to the Gobo Upstairs Lounge and Grill on the 6th Floor a semi fine dining restaurant with a nice warm ambiance.

What came after that was a sumptuous 6 - course dinner created by Sous Chef Kelvin Bin Kilin paired with a different Bouchard Pere & Fils or William Fevre wine with every course.'

A surprise starter was brought first when guest were treated to a succulent great tasting oyster, (It left me looking for a second oyster then i remembered it was a fine dining evening so everything was in small portions!)

Throughout the night Mr, Lauren would give a slight brief on the wine and what taste to expect when tasting it.

The actual starter then arrived" Salmon Tartar" with a vegetarian sushi roll, It was dressed with wasabi mayo, mustard soya dressing, dill aioli, fennel and apple salad. The combination worked well!.

To accompany this starter a Chardonnay Saint -Veran, Maconnais  2012 white wine was chosen. This wine was should give you  a taste  that is "Refreshing, Fruity and Perfumed on the palate".

The Appetiser was Foie Gras Pate. Every spoonful was savoured as the Foie gras was on a brioche, dressed with apple compote, mesclun, berries compaote & balsamic jelly.

The Appetiser was paired with a Gamay, Moulin- a-Vent, Beaujolais 2011 Red Wine. This wine was supposed to a you a taste of "Hints of liquorice and black fruit, Fleshy ample and full bodied on the palate"

The Soup "Wild Mushroom Bisque" with Mascarpone Cheese and truffle oil was simply heavenly. .I wanted a bigger bowl! .

The soup was paired with a Pinot Noir Pommard, Cote de Beaune 2011 red wine which should give you a "Bouquet of liquorice and sweet spices, Rich and fleshy on the mouth with round tannins" taste

The Intermezzo of Mango Sherbet with Pomegranate was simply refreshing, The Mango flavour was intense.

For  the Main Course Guest had a choice of Wagyu Kobe Rib Eye or Grilled Boston Lobster. I chose the lobster and it was fabulous. It was served with porcini mushrooms, asparagus, verjus butter and glazed nectarines.

The main course was paired with a Chardonnay, Vaillons, Chablis Premier Cru 2011 white wine which gave you a taste that was "Very Pronounced Bouquet, full bodied palate with a lovely roundness",

The Dessert  "Raspberry Mouse"looked boring at first but what a pleasant surprise it was, It looked like a plain jelly, but as you poked in with your fork you would then realise it was hiding a heavenly chocolate ganache, The black sesame sponge tasted of Oreo chocolate.

Overall it was a magnificent  dinner paired with some good wines. The team at the Traders Hotel did a good job in making sure the courses were served like clockwork. The beautiful host was very warm and put everyone at ease from the start of the evening. She even belted a few songs with the two piece band that was specially arranged to entertain guest throughout the evening. I must say they were very good. The song selection suited the occassion well and at times we found ourselves singing  along with them especially when they played Mamma Mia!

It was one of the best organized wine dinners I nhave attanded in a long time. Thank you to Caldbeck's and the Traders Hotel KL for the invitation and for being a great host
