Singapore cabby charged with murder of wife’s alleged lover

TEMERLOH: A Singaporean on Wednesday, has been charged with stabbing his wife and murdering a Chinese national.
According to the charge sheet, Quah Tee Keon, 46, allegedly murdered a man named Ruan Chao Qiang at a house in Taman Mawar Indah in Triang, Bera at about 3.30am on Oct 13.
The offence carries the death penalty upon conviction.
His lawyer Lim Lip Eng asked for bail to be granted under exceptional circumstances due to his client's diabetic and asthmatic condition.
However, deputy public prosecutor Ellyna Othman, who did not offer bail and asked Magistrate Najwa Hashim to deny the request, seeing that Quah was healthy enough to be brought to court.
Najwa denied the bail request and fixed Dec 17 for mention.
Quah, who was a taxi driver, was earlier charged in Sessions Court for allegedly injuring his wife Loong Mei Ling, 33, by stabbing her with the knowledge that it would cause death.
He allegedly committed the offence at the same place and time.
Quah could be jailed up to 20 years if convicted for this offence.
Judge Habibah Mohamed Yusof set Dec 17 for mention as well.
During the proceeding, Lim told the court that his client had complained of not being given medical treatment for his diabetes and asthma.
Ellyna then said that the authorities would make sure Quah was given the proper medical attention.
The charges were read out in English as Quah could not understand the Malay language.
It was reported that the accused slashed the Chinese national to death for allegedly spending the night with his wife at his house.
After killing the foreigner, the husband then turned on his wife and attacked her before fleeing.
The woman suffered multiple injuries on her neck, hands and back in the incident.
The accused was reported to have surrendered to the police in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 28.
