Cops begin hunt for leader and followers of 'Tuhan Harun' cult

PETALING JAYA - Police have begun the hunt for the leader and followers of the Tuhan Harun cult in connection with the murder of Pahang Islamic Religious Department (Jaip) head of enforcement Ahmad Rafli Abdul Malek.
Federal CID director Comm Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah said police had given the followers ample time to surrender but the time was up.
"We need them to help in the investigations, but only two of them have surrendered. We are now going after them," he said on Friday.
Comm Hadi also confirmed that cult leader Harun Mat Saat, 47, also known as Tuhan Harun, was among those sought.
"He was charged with multiple cheating charges as well as deviant teachings. He jumped bail and has been missing since five or six months ago," he added.
Comm Hadi said police would work with Jaip to track him and his followers down.
In Johor Baru, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police believed followers of Tuhan Harun followers were active in other states besides Pahang.
"It is too early to say whether the deviationist group had become militant, but we are keeping tabs on their movements," he said.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that one of three premises used by the cult for their gatherings in Kuantan has been put up for rent.
The notice was put up when The Star checked on the premises at Lorong Pandan Damai.
Jaip had sealed the place in Lorong Pandan Damai after raiding it early in April.
The Syariah Lower Court here issued a warrant of arrest against Harun for failing to turn up for case management for the second time.
The case was initially fixed for case management on Aug 20, but he also failed to attend then.
In Kuantan, NIK NAIZI HUSIN reports OCPD ACP Mohd Jasmani Yusoff as saying that warrants of arrest had been issued against six followers.
The warrants against the six - Azida Mohd Zol, 30, Husin lsmail, 43, Pius Anahong@ Mahadi Abdullah, 40, Mohd Shahril Mohd Jaafa, 85, Syahiszam Soid, 40, and Mohd Khalilie Zazali, 31 - were issued Friday after they failed to present themselves at the Syariah Court on Nov 12.
