Fake 'Tan Sri' who cheated three businessmen detained
MUAR: A man in his 40s, who cheated three businessmen here by masquarading as a 'Tan Sri', was apprehended by police in Cameron Highlands, Pahang, last month.
Muar District deputy police chief Supt Sahadan Jaafar said the man who cheated the businessmen last year resulting in total loses of RM150,000, was nabbed while hiding at a resort area.
"His first victim was a car salesman, 54, who lost RM13,000 in May last year.
"In June last year, he cheated a restaurateur of RM26,300, and in August last year, he duped a car salesman, 64, of RM64,000 and a RM50,000 Proton Waja," he told reporters at the Muar District Police Headquarters here Saturday.
Sahadan said the modus operandi of the man, who is from Selangor, was to give a letter offering a landscaping project and petroleum transactions with a petrochemical company to the victims.
He said the man, who operated alone, then imposed a condition to the victims that he be given a car and a sum of money as reward for helping them obtain the project.
"Two of the victims were offered landscaping projects while the other, a petroleum project. The man disappeared upon receiving the money and car," he said. - Bernama
