SINGAPORE: Under the rule of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim as the Sultan of Johor, the state's relationship with Singapore is getting stronger, especially in terms of economics and relations between the people.

Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore, Seah Kian Peng in his welcome speech in conjunction with Sultan Ibrahim's visit to the House of Representatives on Tuesday said that the close relationship that has been nurtured since those ages, became more evident when both countries were going through the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said, His Majesty is indeed known as a strong supporter in bridging the relationship between the people.

"Under the reign of His Majesty as the Sultan of Johor, the relationship between Singapore and Johor has grown stronger, and this was proven during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the two governments worked closely together to ensure supplies were not disrupted at the border.

"His Majesty's visit today is very timely. Bilateral relations are strong and solid. Exchanges at the political and official levels are becoming more frequent, including us being hosts to members of the Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee," he added.

In addition, Seah said, there are many more projects in the planning such as the Johor Bahru-Singapore Stream Transit System (RTS) and the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, as well as future plans in the energy sector.

"This year, we will celebrate the centenary of the Causeway, and next year we will celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations with Malaysia.

"I believe His Majesty's arrival today will be a catalyst for stronger relations between Singapore and Malaysia. We are very pleased to welcome His Majesty to our Parliament," he added.
