Police confirmed that famous celebrity chef, Chef Wan is being investigated by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) in relation to a racist post on social media involving famous star, Aishwarya Rai.
In the comment, Chef Wan or real name Datuk Redzuawan Ismail jokingly said, the dress worn by the former beauty queen on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival was like bringing kavadi to the Thaipusam ceremony at Batu Caves.
Speaking to Astro AWANI , Sentul District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari informed that his side received a report regarding the case.
"However, this case was handed over to USJT because it involves the 3Rs, which are religion, race and king," he said here, on Monday.
Ahmad Sukarno also reminded the public not to touch on the 3R issue on any platform because it could threaten the safety and public order of various races in Malaysia.
Chef Wan's comment sparked criticism from netizens who described the statement as being racist and did not reflect the identity of a famous person.
It was a reaction to Aiswarya Rai's video at the Cannes Film Festival shared by the owner of the Namaste Bollywood Instagram account with the caption First thought that comes to mind .
