The Emir of Kuwait dissolves the Parliament that was elected a month ago - Decree
Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, on Friday evening issued a decree dissolving the Parliament elected in early April.
DOHA: The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, on Friday evening issued a decree dissolving the Parliament elected in early April, Sputnik reported.
"Based on the highest interests of the country, we order the following: first, dissolve the Parliament, and second, suspend the operation of several clauses of the Constitution for no more than four years," according to the decree read on Kuwait Central Television.
In addition, Sheikh Mishal decided that some powers of the Parliament will be transferred to the Emir of Kuwait and the government.
As his majesty said after the dissolution of Parliament, Sheikh Mishal said "will not allow democracy to be used to destroy the country."
Kuwait's early parliamentary elections were held on April 4 for the fifth time in two years following a conflict between the country's executive and legislative branches. - BERNAMA
