Sarawak Police confirmed that Taib Mahmud is now at his residence
KUCHING: The police confirmed that the former Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud is currently at his private residence in Demak Jaya, here.
"He is now at his residence," Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata told reporters on Wednesday after launching Ops Selamat in conjunction with the Chinese New Year, here.
The police in the meantime also confirmed receiving eight follow-up reports of cases of escape from a specialist treatment center on Saturday.
When confirming the matter, he said that the reports included those from his own family members.
"The case is still under investigation and we cannot (reveal) everything that happened.
"Still in the investigation process," he said while answering media questions.
Previously, it went viral on social media regarding a police report by a doctor who informed that Abdul Taib, 87, had been taken away from the treatment center against medical advice.
Abdul Taib is the seventh Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak and has ruled for 10 years until last January 29.
Before that, this political leader since the establishment of Malaysia on 16 September 1963 was the Chief Minister of Sarawak for 33 years.
