KUALA LUMPUR: The government has agreed to provide free tolls to class 1 vehicles (private vehicles) in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations, on February 9 and 10.

According to the Minister of Public Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, the provision of free tolls will be implemented on all highways starting at 12.01 midnight on February 8 (Friday) and will end at 11.59 pm on February 9 (Saturday).

He said, this approach of giving free tolls is in line with the aspirations of the Unity Government which focuses on the welfare of the people and always helps reduce the cost of living for the people.

"The financial implications are estimated at RM42.99 million.

"The toll exemption will be given to Class 1 vehicles (private vehicles) only at all toll plazas except at the toll plazas at the national border which are the Sultan Iskandar Building Toll (BSI) and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza, Johor Darul Takzim.

"The free toll by the government is a sign of concern and equally wanting to share the joy with Malaysians who are celebrating the Chinese New Year this time.

"With the implementation of this free toll it is hoped that highway users can make the most of this opportunity and plan their journey accordingly and are advised to adhere to the recommended travel time schedule or travel time advisory (TTA)," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

In addition, Alexander also reminded that aspects of safety and safe driving must be followed so that all highway users can reach their destination safely and this CNY celebration will be more meaningful with their beloved family.

He added, users are also advised to get enough rest and ensure that the balance of the Touch 'n Go card and eWallet is sufficient.

"Users can check the status of traffic or any incident on the highway which will be updated on the official social media of the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) which is on the Facebook of the Malaysian Highway Authority or on the X application @LLMtrafik periodically.

"Highway users can also contact the LLM Traffic Management Center at 1-800-88-7752 to get the latest information on traffic conditions or assistance," he said.
