ABU DHABI: Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will establish cooperation through an investment memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and the UAE International Investment Council (UAEIIC) in an effort to further expand existing relations, said the Prime Minister, Datuk Series Anwar Ibrahim.
He said, the two countries are also embracing (exploring) the scope of cooperation related to renewable energy (TBB) between MIDA and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC - MASDAR.
According to him, this MoU aims to jointly develop a capacity of 10 gigawatts worth US$8 billion in the renewable energy sector in Malaysia by 2025.
Anwar said the unity of Malaysia-UAE cooperation related to trade and investment was also harmonized with the appointment of Petronas President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Kamadjaja as Chairman of the Malaysia-UAE Business Council (MUBC), while Mubadala Energy Senior Vice President Rashid Alblooshi representing the UAE.
"God willing, Malaysia and the UAE will continue to explore closer forms of cooperation and relations to strengthen the economies of both countries," he said in a post on his Facebook.
Earlier, Anwar, who is on a two-day working visit to the UAE starting Thursday, was received by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is also the Ruler of Abu Dhabi, at Qasr Al Shati' Palace here.
He who was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir and the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the session was an opportunity to exchange views and ideas on related glocal issues in addition to discussions to strengthen existing cooperation and relations. there is
"(This is) especially in the fields of economy, trade, investment, TBB, food safety and others that fulfill the vision of both countries for a sustainable and prosperous future," he said who arrived here at 5 am on Thursday (9 am Malaysia).
In addition to meeting with Sheikh Mohamed, Anwar also held a meeting with UAE Investment Minister Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi.
The Prime Minister also held an informal session with Lulu Group International Chairman and Managing Director MA Yusuff Ali, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) Managing Director Sheikh Hamed Zayed Al Nahyan and Mubadala Group CEO Khaldoon Al Mubarak.
Anwar also attended a round table conference with industry leaders in the UAE.
