Member of Parliament from Kuala Kangsar declares support for PM Anwar's leadership
KUALA LUMPUR: Member of Parliament for Kuala Kangsar Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid has decided to support the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from today.
He said the decision was made after examining the continuous complaints of voters and emphasizing the urgent need to deal with the crisis of the rising cost of living that has hit his area.
"I believe the country's economy needs to be improved for the sake of the country's prosperity and the well-being of the people. As such, I support YAB Prime Minister for any efforts made to strengthen the country's economy," he said in a statement today.
However, Iskandar Dzulkarnain said he will not leave or betray Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) under any circumstances on the principle of obedience and loyalty to the party.
Although he may face the risk of disciplinary action by the party, Iskandar Dzulkarnain said he is not willing to see voters in his area continue to be idle and lag behind simply because of political narrative disputes.
"I hereby decide to support the government's initiatives in matters that prioritize the welfare of the people of this country, until the next General Election," he said.
The 15th General Election in November last year saw Iskandar Dzulkarnian win the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary seat with 14,380 votes over Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Maslin Sham Razman who received 10,814 votes and Dr Ahmad Termizi Ramli from Pakatan Harapan (10,356 votes) and GTA candidate Dr Yusmalia Mohamad Yusof (204 votes).
The Bersatu Supreme Council member had previously been the political secretary of the Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
