PADANG SERAI: Candidate for P.017 parliamentary seat from PKR, M Karupaiya died at Kulim Hospital, at 2.20 this afternoon.

The sad news about the passing of the deceased who was also the incumbent of the Padang Serai parliamentary seat was confirmed by his daughter, Dippah 

It is understood that the deceased was admitted to the hospital last night after complaining of stomach pain, but so far the exact cause of death is still unknown.

In the 14th General Election (GE14), Karupaiya won in style with a majority of 8,813 votes.

In the 15th General Election (GE15), the Padang Serai parliamentary seat witnessed a six-cornered competition with candidates from Barisan Nasional, Datuk Sivaraj Chandran, Hamzah Abd Rahman (Pejuang), Datuk Azman Nasrudin (Perikatan Nasional), Mohd Bakhri Hashim (Warisan ) and Amanda AK from independent.
