IPOH: A total of six divers have tested positive for COVID-19 after one of them became in close contact with a positive individual
Director General of the National Sports Council (MSN), Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail said the individual was infected from one of his family members before undergoing training at the National Sports Complex.
He said the athlete had infected five other athletes and now all of them have been placed in the Kampung Pandan Paralympic Excellence Complex for isolation and monitoring purposes. "Currently at the national athlete training camp in Bukit Jalil, a COVID-19 cluster has been detected involving the diving squad.
"At the moment six athletes have been tested positive but all of them are not showing any symptoms," he said as he spoke to reporters after the opening ceremony of the National Football Development Program (NFDP) Academy in Hulu Kinta, near here on Saturday.
The ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
Ahmad Shapawi added that he and the District Health Department are actively taking necessary measures including conducting close contact tracing.
Asked whether MSN would conduct the training of athletes based on the sports bubble system, Ahmad Shapawi was of the view that the implementation was unnecessary.
Instead, he said, MSN requested that all athletes be able to exercise self-control to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
