Three detained COVID-19 positive protest leaders in good health, says Corrections Department

BANGKOK, Aug 18 -- Three Thai anti-government protest leaders who tested positive for COVID-19 during their detention are in good health, the Corrections Department said.
The protest leaders are Parit Chiwarak, 23, Sirichai Nathueng, 21, Phromsorn Weerathamjaree, 30. The trio tested positive for COVID-19 early this week and have been receiving treatment at Bangkok’s Medical Correctional Hospital.
Deputy Director-General of the Corrections Department Thawatchai Chaiwat said Parit is under yellow category (moderate) as he weighed more than 90 kilogramme also has asthma while Sirichai and Phromsorn considered green-coded patient.
He said their pulse and oxygen remain at normal level.
“The other rally leaders who were arrested tested negative for COVID-19,” he was quoted saying by Bangkok Post.
On Aug 8, Parit, Sirichai and Phromsorn were arrested in front of the Police Headquarters in Bangkok in connection with their participation in a protest on Aug 2 in front of the Border Patrol Police Region 1 in Pathum Thani. The next day, the Thanyaburi Provincial Court denied their bail request.
The other protest leaders in custody include human rights lawyer Anon Nampa, Panupong Chadnok and Jatuphat Boonpattararaksa.
Protest leaders like Parit, Panupong, Jatupat, Anon had spent time in jail over previous demonstrations and released on bail in April.
Anti-government protesters returned to streets repeating their demand that Prime Minister Prayuth Chan o-cha steps down for the government’s poor handling of the COVID-19 situation and slow vaccine roll-out.
