Former Perlis enforcement official claims trial to RM1.77 mil CBT

ALOR STAR – A government retiree pleaded not guilty at the sessions court here today to a charge of criminal breach of trust involving more than RM1.77 million belonging to a Siamese temple five years ago.
San Yap Din Ei Yat, 71, entered the plea before judge Sharifah Norazlita Syed Salim Idid.
The former enforcement head of a government agency in Perlis was charged with committing the offence at Wat Boonyaram in Padang Sera, Kodiang, Kubang Pasu district, between March 7 and October 25, 2016.
The charge, under Section 406 of the Penal Code, provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years and whipping, and liable to a fine, upon conviction.
The court allowed San Yap, who was unrepresented, bail at RM15,000 with one surety, and set September 26 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Siti Nurul Suhaila Baharin prosecuted.
