KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman questioned the statement of her counterpart Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon on the issue that only the prime minister is responsible for reporting to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Parliamentary affairs.
Azalina through the Twitter application asked if Mohd Rashid had read the letter from Istana Negara dated 9 August.
It is understood that the letter is a letter from Istana Negara asking the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun to confirm the number of MPs who still support the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Mohd Rashid had previously said that he was not aware of the existence of the letter.
By Twitter Azalina asked whether Mohd Rashid had read the letter dated August 9 which was copied to both of them.
"Honorable Members, did we not meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in public (together) on June 29, 2021?" The question is.
Azalina also wrote; "p/s Letter dated 9 August 2021 copied to both of us, have you read it yet?"
The snap was also accompanied by a photo showing the meeting.
Mohd Rashid had earlier told a news portal that there had been no previous practice where the Yang di-Pertuan Agong would communicate directly with the Speaker on parliamentary affairs.
He said, according to the procedure when Parliament is sitting, the head of the Dewan Rakyat, the prime minister, will report directly to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, including matters related to majority support.
