SHAH ALAM – The sessions court here today issued an arrest warrant against a taxi company owner with the Datuk title after he failed to show up to face corruption charges.

Judge Rozilah Salleh said the warrant was issued to ensure his presence in court for proceedings on September 9.

Earlier, defence lawyer Putri Aisyah Zahirah Zakrya told the court that her client was unable to attend proceedings for another charge at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court on August 4 and 8 as he contracted Covid-19 on August 3.

She said he was admitted to Sg Buloh Hospital from August 7 to 11, and was warded again at Prince Court Medical Centre between August 12 and 23.

She added that her client is now recuperating on sick leave.

Rozilah said the arrest warrant was issued as the accused had already been discharged, adding that the two weeks given for him to show up in court “is more than sufficient”.

“The accused is also required to update the MySejahtera app, as a medical certificate alone is not sufficient. The court wants to know his current health status.”

Putri Aisyah Zahirah apologised to the court for submitting her client’s medical certificate only yesterday, saying it was obtained only on the same day.

She called for leniency on the grounds that her client is also undergoing treatment for colon cancer
