KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 -- A total 48 individuals were detained yesterday for defying the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

He said the 47 of them were issued compounds while one more was offered bail.

Failure to wear face masks topped the list of violations with 17 people caught, while 13 premises had action taken for operating beyond permitted hours.

“Other violations include failing to provide registration tools for entry and exit (12 individuals), home quarantine violation (one) and activities that hampered physical distancing (five),” he said in a statement on RMCO developments.

On Op Benteng, Ismail Sabri said 87 illegal immigrants were arrested, including a boat skipper and a smuggler.

"Seventy-nine roadblocks were mounted yesterday and stern action will be taken against those who try to enter the country illegally,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said from July 24 until yesterday, 22,252 people returned home from abroad and placed in 70 hotels and public training institutes, of which 8,985 are still undergoing compulsory quarantine while 66 were sent to the hospital for treatment, adding that 13,201 more were discharged and allowed home.

They had returned from 32 countries, namely the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, Qatar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, India, UAE, Japan, Turkey, South Korea, Iran, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Timor Leste, Taiwan, China, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Egypt, Spain, France, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

Also, checks by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) on 22 construction sites nationwide found that only one site failed to comply with standard operating procedures, and the operator was subsequently given a warning.

Ismail Sabri said checks also showed that essential goods were sufficient and readily available nationwide.
