It still baffles me that the two Malaysian Airlines planes in 2014 met their fate on the same date as their flight numbers.

MH17 went down on July 17, 2014. (European Time)
Friday marks six years since the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17) over conflict-hit Ukraine on 17 July 2014. MH17 was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, with 283 passengers, including 80 children, and 15 crew members on board.
The crew were all Malaysian, while over two-thirds (68%) of the passengers were Dutch. Most of the other passengers were Malaysians and Australians, the remainder were citizens of seven other countries
After a 15-month investigation by the Dutch Safety Board (DSB), in October 2015 it was confirmed that MH17 crashed after being hit by a Russian-made Buk missile over eastern Ukraine when it was found to have disappeared from radar.
Contact with the aircraft, a Boeing 777-200ER, was lost when it was about 50 km (31 mi) from the Ukraine–Russia border, and wreckage of the aircraft fell near Hrabove in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine, 40 km (25 mi) from the border.
It was Malaysia Airlines' second aircraft loss during 2014, after the disappearance of Flight 370 on 8 March. The shoot-down occurred in the War in Donbass, during the Battle in Shakhtarsk Raion, in an area controlled by pro-Russian rebels. The Ukrainian Air Force had suffered losses from increasingly sophisticated air defence weaponry.
The responsibility for investigation was delegated to the Dutch Safety Board (DSB) and the Dutch-led joint investigation team (JIT), who concluded that the airliner was downed by a BUK surface-to-air missile launched from pro-Russian separatist-controlled territory in Ukraine.
The responsibility for investigation was delegated to the Dutch Safety Board (DSB) and the Dutch-led joint investigation team (JIT), who concluded that the airliner was downed by a BUK surface-to-air missile launched from pro-Russian separatist-controlled territory in Ukraine.
According to the JIT, the Buk that was used originated from the 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade of the Russian Federation and had been transported from Russia on the day of the crash, fired from a field in a rebel-controlled area and returned to Russia afterwards. On the basis of the JIT's conclusions, the governments of the Netherlands and Australia held Russia responsible for the deployment of the Buk installation and were pursuing legal routes as of May 2018.
Murder charges
In June 2019, almost five years after the incident, the identities of four suspects - three Russians and a Ukrainian - were released by investigators.
The suspects - Sergey Dubinsky, Oleg Pulatov, Igor Girkin and Leonid Kharchenko - are likely to be tried in absentia when a trial starts in the Netherlands next March, as Russia has refused to cooperate with the investigation and is unlikely to hand anyone over. These are the four men accused of murdering 298 people. Last week, the Dutch government, acting on behalf of the 193 Dutch nationals on the flight, announced it was taking Russia to the European Court of Human Rights. A criminal trial against four suspects involved in transporting the missile system that downed MH17 began in Amsterdam in March.

The Moment Rebels Realised - Shot Down MH17 Was A Passenger Plane
MH-17: The Untold Story. Exploring possible causes of the tragedy - the Russian theory.
The Russian government has always denied involvement in the shooting down of the plane and its account of what caused the shoot down has varied over time. Coverage in Russian media has also differed from that in other countries. Russia holds the Ukrainian government at fault for allowing civilian flights in a war zone.
In a documentary by RT they compiled their findings from their own investigation in 2014.
During a July 2 briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova was asked about a book on the MH17 shootdown published in Malaysia by an author identified as M. Ibrahim.
The reporter asked: “We saw a message that a book was published in Malaysia on the plane crash of flight MH17, which belongs to the pen of the famous Malaysian writer M. Ibrahim. His works are even included in the school curriculum. Have you heard anything about this new edition and how can you comment on it?”
Zakharova responded: “The appearance of this book testifies to the increasing desire of the Malaysians to form their own opinion about what happened. We believe that the latter is especially important, given how one-sided and engaged in the West this tragedy has been illuminated for years.”
The book is titled “Membongkar Misteri Tragedi MH370 & MH17: Angkara Yahudi Dajjal Illuminati,” which roughly translates to “Uncovering the Mystery of the Tragedy of MH370 & MH17: The Evils of the Jewish Antichrist Illuminati.”
The author, Syed Mahadzir Syed Ibrahim, has published several books promoting conspiracy theories about the Illuminati, an alleged secret society that is often purported to control the world from behind the scenes. The name derives from the Bavarian Illuminati, a historical secret society formed in 1776 which opposed government interference in religion and other abuses of state power. Rather than achieve world domination, however, the real Illuminati was all but defunct by the end of the 18th century.
The latest work appears to connect the fate of MH17 to that of MH370, another Boeing 777 airliner, which disappeared on March 8, 2014, during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board. Why the plane vanished hasn’t been definitively determined. Only pieces of debris were recovered, allowing conspiracy theories to flourish.
They extended further when Malaysian airliner MH17 was shot down over Ukraine nearly four months later. Some pro-Moscow blogs and media outlets latched on to a theory connecting the disasters – and distracting attention away from potential Russian culpability, as investigator now allege in an ongoing criminal trial in the Netherlands.
Russian state media have more than once promoted the views of Malaysians who oppose the international community’s findings on the MH17 disaster.

SCEPTICS INCLUDE TUN DR. MAHATHIR
The skeptics include former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, who has staunchly defended Russia in the MH17 case. In 2019, he claimed the West blamed Russia from the start without evidence, and that Malaysians were “excluded” from investigating the disaster.
WILL WE EVER KNOW?
Just like in MH370 we will never know conclusively what really happened to MH17, Some believe the findings of the Dutch Safety Board While some others still have doubts and believe Russia's findings.
Whatever is it today we remember MH17 & the 298 souls on board and pray their souls Rest in Peace.
