KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 -- The Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) hockey team created its sweetest victory in a treble triumph this season after winning the 2020 TNB Cup tonight.
UniKL, coached by Arul Selvaraj, prior to this had won the Sumbangsih Cup in January and was subsequently crowned the 2020 Malaysian Hockey League (MHL) champions.
At the final action of the TNB Cup, UniKL confirmed its supremacy after a heart-pounding action against the Terengganu Hockey team (THT) which ended in a 2-1 score.
"It's nice because we win three cups and maintained our unbeaten record this season. It is something sweet to remember. The difficult part will be next year as we will have to make an earlier preparation to maintain our performance like today.
‘’Everybody knows that to win is easier that defending a championship. But, overall I feel the UniKL team had played well,’’ said Arul after the match at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
THT was comfortably ahead of UniKL 1-0 in the first half when Nabil Fiqri Mohd Noor opened the scoring as early as the 13th minute through a penalty corner strike.
UniKL, as the best team with a 14-match unbeaten run in the league competition, did not lose heart but revved up their game to score two goals.
UniKL, shocked the 2019 TNB Cup champions, THT through a field goal by Mohamad Faid Farhahd Mohamad Shah and national player, Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin Tengku Abdul Jalil. Both goals were scored in the 48th minute.
