PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan rejected the "non-partisan government" proposal as such an arrangement would have given only Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad the power to decide on the composition of the Cabinet, says Bakri MP Yeo Bee Yin.
“This means that only Tun (would decide), (and) that DAP and other political parties would not be consulted in the process.
“Effectively, it is a Tun government and not a Pakatan Harapan government. The promises of the Pakatan manifesto would not be fulfilled, ” she said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Feb 26).
While she expressed gratitude to Dr Mahathir for refusing to work with corrupt politicians from Umno, Yeo said the unity government proposal could be accepted.
The proposed Cabinet from Dr Mahathir, she added, would also likely include politicians who “triggered the current crisis”, as well as lawmakers from Umno and PAS.
The former Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister said Dr Mahathir was invited to discuss the proposal in Pakatan’s presidential council meeting on Tuesday (Feb 25).
However, he did not accept the invitation.
“Therefore, the Pakatan leadership decided at the meeting to defend the people’s mandate to the Pakatan government and to fulfil our Pakatan manifesto by nominating Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Pakatan prime minister.
“We call upon all Malaysians to support the nomination of Anwar as the eighth prime minister of Malaysia, to respect the mandate given in the 14th general election and to ensure continued stability for the nation, ” she wrote.
