PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Under-18 striker Luqman Hakim is already making an impact in Europe.

Yesterday, accounting firm KPMG announced via Twitter that Belgian club KV Kortrijk had the third highest growth in social media following among European clubs in the last three months.

And it attributed the popularity surge to Luqman.

According to KPMG’s football analytics platform, the top flight side’s online presence has grown 39%.

Kortrijk acquired the National Football Development Programme graduate’s services on a five-year contract in September after he impressed on international duty.

That led to Malaysians flooding the club’s social media platforms.

Dutch outfit Heerenveen top the list with 160% growth – attributed to the signing of Vietnamese fullback Doan Van Hau.

Portuguese club Famalicao (44%), Mario Balotelli’s Italian side Brescia (34%) and Czech champions Slavia Prague (25%) complete the list.

Luqman, 17, has been touted as a future star following his exploits with the national juniors.

He recently helped Malaysia qualify for next year’s AFC Under-19 Championship in Uzbekistan.
