Aziz Bari dismisses clip of him laying out plan to unseat Perak MB

Aziz Bari seen in a screenshot of a video clip uploaded on YouTube.PETALING JAYA: Perak executive councillor Aziz Bari has brushed aside a video clip showing him explaining a strategy to unseat Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu, one year after the latter dismissed talks of him being replaced.
“When there was talk of a plot to topple the MB, I have repeatedly said I was not involved,” Aziz, an academic-turned-politician who joined DAP in 2015 and a first-term assemblyman, told reporters today.
In the five-minute video uploaded on YouTube by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin, Aziz was heard making reference to a PPBM man he called “Haji”, who had told him that they wanted Faizal replaced.
“So they suggested me (as the new MB), I said okay. Once we have enough, we will meet Tuanku (Perak Sultan),” said Aziz who was facing an unidentified person.
He also claimed to have spoken to Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub to secure support from the party’s six assemblymen in the state.
He said with PKR’s support, he would get the support of 28 Perak assemblymen.
Aziz further said that fellow excos, former MB Mohamad Nizar Jamaluddin as well as Asmuni Awi, both now in Amanah, were not qualified for the MB job.
“They are like princes, it’s not street-fighter type. I’m not saying I am the one, but at least I’m better than them.”
Saying he had good ties with the Perak palace, Aziz named one Annuar Zaini who told him that he was in the Sultan’s “good books”.
Aziz meanwhile said he had been trying to arrange for a joint press conference with Faizal to dispel rumours of a plot.
“I am still waiting. But this is not an issue to me. I have much work to do.
“I have already answered this last year and the no-confidence vote did not take place.”
