GOMBAK: Police officers have been warned against seeking funds from companies and individuals to organise Hari Raya events.

Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said senior officers who instruct their subordinates to seek such funds would be immediately transferred.

“I have given instruction not to organise events using outside funds, I don’t allow it,” Hamid told reporters at an event to distribute Hari Raya goodies at the Gombak toll plaza.

He said police should use their own funds to organise Raya gatherings.




“If we cannot afford, do not organise. No one will protest if the police do not organise a Hari Raya open house,” he added.

He said there were some who still wanted to hold lavish gatherings at police stations.

“What is embarrassing is that the money comes from the public and worse still, illegal sources.”

Meanwhile, Hamid said police knew the whereabouts of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, who is wanted over his involvement in the 1MDB scandal.

This followed a rumour on Saturday that Low had been detained in China, which the police have denied.
