ALOR SETAR: Fourteen people have been diagnosed with suspected Chikungunya here after they went to seek treatment for fever, joint pains and skin rashes.

State Health Department Director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said most of the cases were from the same row of business shoplots and surrounding area in front of City Plaza, Jalan Tengku Ibrahim here.


"The District Health Office (PKD) Kota Setar immediately dispatched a health team upon receiving information, where 14 people were found to be suffering from fever, severe joint pains and rashes on June 9.

"Many received outpatient treatment at private clinics around Alor Setar and they are all in stable condition.



Dr Norhizan added that samples have been sent to the National Public Health laboratory in Sungai Buluh for further tests to confirm whether it is Chikungunya.

Chikungunya fever is a viral illness that is spread by the bites of infected mosquitoes.
