Latheefa pays Dr M a visit

PETALING JAYA: Newly minted Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Latheefa Koya paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Thursday morning (June 20).
Pictures of their meeting was posted on Dr Mahathir's Facebook page, showing them greeting each other in a cordial manner before appearing to move on to discussing more serious matters.
Latheefa is also expected to appear before Parliament’s Special Select Committee (PSC) on Major Public Appointments later this afternoon.
The former PKR member and executive director of Lawyers for Liberty started her first day as MACC chief commissioner on June 4 at around 3.32pm in Putrajaya.
The announcement of Latheefa’s appointment on June 4 came as a surprise to many. She replaced Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull, who quit before his tenure ended in 2020.
Upon her appointment, she resigned as PKR member and from her position as executive director of Lawyers for Liberty.
Dr Mahathir said it was his personal decision to appoint Latheefa to as the new MACC chief, adding that he did not consult the Cabinet on the matter.
He also said his decision to appoint Latheefa was final following questions raised by some quarters over the manner of her appointment.
