Rosmah's presence in courtroom interrupts SRC trial proceedings

KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor's presence in court during her husband Datuk Seri Najib Razak's SRC International trial on Tuesday (June 18) raised objection from the prosecution team.
Clad in a red scarf and baju kurung, Rosmah entered the court at about 9.20am - shortly after proceedings started - and took a seat in the family area of the public gallery, right behind the former prime minister.
Ad-hoc prosecutor Datuk V. Sithambaram interrupted counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah during the cross examination of former SRC International chairman Tan Sri Ismee Ismail to raise his objection regarding Rosmah's presence.
Addressing judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali, Sithambaram pointed out that Rosmah should not be in the courtroom as she was a potential witness, since her statement had been taken by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Lawyer Datuk K. Kumaraendran, however, argued that Rosmah was in court before.
While the discussion on her presence was ongoing, Rosmah exited the court.
This was before Mohd Nazlan could make a ruling on whether her presence was or was not allowed.
She then left the Jalan Duta court complex in a black Proton Perdana.
Najib is facing seven charges involving RM42mil in funds belonging to SRC International, formerly a subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
On July 4 last year, Najib claimed trial to a charge of abuse of power and three counts of criminal breach of trust linked to the 1MDB scandal.
He allegedly misappropriated RM42mil in funds belonging to SRC International
On Aug 8 last year, he was charged with three counts of money laundering involving the same RM42mil.
