PETALING JAYA: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says that he disagreed with his political secretary's view over Datuk Seri Azmin Ali's position as the party's deputy president.

"I do not agree with the statement made by Farhash Wafa on the video issue and the position of Azmin as the deputy president," he said in a statement Tuesday (June 18).

Anwar was responding to statement by his political secretary Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak who asked Azmin to quit if the evidence over the sex video clips is overwhelmingly against him.

Farhash had reportedly called for Azmin's resignation, adding that “this whole fiasco is turning into a circus, and they are implicating everyone, including me.”

“It is time those responsible own up and put the matter to rest, so we can move on to more pressing issues,” added Farhash in an interview with an English daily.

Anwar also reminded party members to use the proper channel when making statements.

"Again, I would like to urge the leadership and party members to use the proper channel and leave the duty to investigate the issue to the police," added Anwar.

In the past week, clips of a sex video involving two men have gone viral, followed by a confession by Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, who is also Santubong PKR Youth chief, that he was one of the two men in the videos.

He claimed that the other person was Azmin, who is also Economic Affairs Minister.

Azmin had categorically denied the allegation, saying it was made to tarnish his reputation and destroy his political career.

Haziq is being investigated under four charges, including Section 377B of the Penal Code for carnal intercourse against the order of nature and Section 292 for distributing obscene materials.

PETALING JAYA: The political secretary of Anwar Ibrahim has urged Mohamed Azmin Ali to resign from the government if several gay sex videos implicating the economic affairs minister are proven to be genuine.

Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak also urged the PKR deputy president to take legal action against Muhammad Haziq Aziz following his allegation that he had sex with Azmin.

“Let the police investigate, but if it is proven that he is the person in the video, I feel he should resign,” he told FMT.

Farhash, who describes Azmin a “friend and comrade”, said he felt sorry for him but hit out at those who he said were trying to involve him in the controversy.

Haziq, an aide to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin had made a startling claim in a video confession on Facebook, naming himself and Azmin as the pair in several clips shared on social media last week.

Farhash, who is Perak PKR chief, also denied he was with Haziq when the latter was arrested or that he was “missing”.

A blogger had made the first claim while a media outlet today claimed that the whereabouts of a PKR leader were a mystery.

“I am not involved at all. I do not know where they got their information because I was not at KLIA. I am around, at the places I always go to.”

He said he had not wanted to entertain the rumours of his alleged involvement but that he now felt compelled to do so as a national paper was making claims about him.

“I don’t know how my name ended up in the mix. This is all nonsense,” he said, adding that he was ready to cooperate with the police if asked to.

“I think the police aren’t stupid, but if they suspect, I will cooperate, no problem.”

On whether Azmin should swear his innocence on the Quran, he said he didn’t know.

“It’s up to Azmin, but I feel this issue is getting bigger by the day, so I feel he should do something.”

He did not want to comment on whether the video clips were the work of a party insider, saying that is something for the police to determine.

He said the people wanted to know whether it was Azmin in the videos, and that it was better to let the authorities do their job instead of complicating matters.
