JOHOR BARU: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT), Malaysia's only representative in the 2019 AFC Asian Champions League, have landed in the tournament's "group of death".
The Southern Tigers, making their debut in the championship, are in Group E, together with defending champions Kashima Antlers from Japan, South Korea's Gyeongnam FC and China's Shandong Luneng.
Shandong Luneng's line-up includes former Manchester United and Belgium national player Marouane Fellaini as well as former Southampton and Italy national striker Graziano Pelle.
In a statement posted on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page on Tuesday (Feb 19), JDT said their first group match is against Kashima Antlers at Kashima Soccer Stadium in Japan on March 5.
It said JDT would then host Gyeongnam FC at Larkin Stadium on March 12.
Another Malaysian team, Perak, failed to make the group stage on Tuesday (Feb 19) night after they went down 1-5 to 2012 champions Ulsan Hyunday in the playoff match in South Korea.
