Don't wait, quit IIUM post now, Muhyiddin advises Maszlee

PUTRAJAYA: Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik should not wait any longer to resign as International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) president, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president said the party and the Cabinet had already made it clear that the Simpang Renggam MP should leave the post.


“A very clear decision has been made by the Cabinet. He (Dr Maszlee) has responded by accepting it but has said he needs more time.

“I would rather advise that he resigns as soon as possible.


“I think Dr Maszlee should know about it,” said Muhyiddin at a press conference here on Monday (Nov 12).

Dr Maszlee’s appointment as IIUM president was roundly condemned especially by student groups, as it went against Pakatan Harapan’s promise not to appoint politicians to manage universities.

The minister’s office said he has agreed to step down but is delaying the move until a replacement is found.
