KUALA LUMPUR: Some 1,000 people thronged the city traffic police headquarters here to take advantage of an offer to settle summonses at a 50% discount.
The offer by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), held in conjunction with Deepavali celebrations, is in effect from 8.30am to 4.30pm daily until Friday (Nov 9) at its traffic headquarters located at Jalan Tun H.S. Lee.
Crowds were seen queuing as early as 7.30am.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement department chief Asst Comm Zulkefly Yahya said some 4,000 summonses have been paid under the offer so far.
"It is one of our ways to encourage people to settle their summonses before they are blacklisted," he said.
Promotions of this kind are encouraged by new Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement department chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Azisman Alias.
ACP Zulkefly said he would gauge the response from the public at the end of the three-day offer.
"So far it has been encouraging. We hope such offers will spur the public to do the right thing," he said.
