IPOH: The leader of the notorious "Don Tiger" gang of armed robbers and three of its members, who are high on the police's wanted list, were killed in an shootout with police near Jalan Tambun Thursday night.

Perak deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the four, aged between 20 and 30, were killed at about 10.50pm.

He said a police patrol car had come across a grey-coloured Honda Accord, and tried to stop the car.

DCP Hasnan said the policemen in the patrol car heard shots being fired from the other vehicle, which then sped off towards the Tambun main road.

"The driver of the Honda then hit the patrol car before ramming into a street light pole.

"When the policemen tried to approach, the front passenger of the car fired another shot and the policemen returned fire in self defence.

"All the four suspects have criminal records and the gang has been active carrying out robberies in the Ipoh and Kampar districts," he told a press conference here Friday.

DCP Hasnan added the police were looking for more of the gang's members.

He said the gang has been active since August last year.

"The Honda Accord used by the gang was also reported stolen on Aug 27.

"Among the other items seized at the scene were an automatic Remington Colt .45 pistol, a parang, a transparent plastic containing Syabu, cutter, iron rod and handphones," he added.
