Gardener dead after running back into burning house

GEORGE TOWN: When the fire broke out at his rented double-storey house in Jalan Bunga Matahari, he managed to run away from the flames.
However, the gardener, in his 50s, was seen running back into the house and that cost him his life.
The man was found trapped under the rubble at the kitchen area of the house by firemen some 90 minutes after the fire broke out at around 6.30pm Monday.
The gardener, whose name has yet to be released, was fondly known to the villagers of in Kampung Tanjung Tokong as ‘To Pui’.
State Fire and Rescue Department senior operations commander Edifitri Abd Rahim said that the victim’s charred body was found under the rubble.
“The department received a distress call at 6.30pm and we arrived at the scene at 6.43pm,” he said.
