Prince George Unimpressed With Canadian Prime Minister, Refuses To Give Him A High-Five
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau may have charmed the entire world with his large personality, but the future king of England, Prince George, was certainly unmoved by the popular premier during their first meet.
The young royal landed in Canada with his parents William and Kate — the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — and his sister Princess Charlotte, in their eight-day tour.
Greeting the royals who arrived in their 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron airfield in Victoria airport on Sunday, a video showing Trudeau kneeling down, attempting to high-five the three-year-old but was left awkwardly hanging, has gone viral.
The elder child gripped tightly to his father’s hand and shook his head not wanting to return the gesture. The 44-year-old also attempted to give the tot a handshake, but it wasn’t returned either.
The snub has been widely shared by the British media.
“Superstar politician Mr. Trudeau might have endeared himself to millions online through his outspoken feminism, support for diversity and willingness to embrace Internet memes, but it seems to take more than that to impress Will and Kate’s eldest,” The Mirror reported.
“The Duke of Cambridge and Kate Middleton’s eldest son might be just three years old but it appears he has already grown accomplished at putting on his airs and graces,” The Independent wrote.
While Daily Mail headlined: “Sorry, one doesn’t high-five with commoners.”
However, the coy George who donned a blue jumper and corduroy shorts later warmed up and started waving for the cameras.
His father meanwhile announced how delighted he was to return to Canada, with thousands gathering on the waterfront to cheer them on their arrival.
“Catherine and I are delighted to be back in Canada. When we were here last time, we had been married only three months.
“The warm welcome that you gave us at that important moment in our lives meant a lot to us — and we have never forgotten it.
“That is why we are so pleased that George and Charlotte can be with us in Canada this time round, beginning their own lifetime of friendship with this wonderful country,” William said during their arrival.
The prime minister on the other hand, took the rejection well and carried on greeting the rest of the royals.
In good spirits he said to the royal parents: “I want to commend you - and thank you - for introducing our part of the world to Prince George and Princess Charlotte.”
