Baby dumped at bus stop hours after birth
Lucky to be alive: A police officer holding the baby girl found at a bus stop in front of SMK Datuk Onn in Butterworth, Penang.
BUTTERWORTH: A baby girl was left in a bag and dumped at the bus stop outside the SMK Datuk Onn in Bagan Ajam here.
She was found naked in a wet plastic bag, with mosquitoes buzzing around. Her face and body were full of insect bites. It was later discovered that she had been born only hours earlier.
A school guard heard the baby’s cries at 7am yesterday and authorities rushed to the site as soon as they were alerted.
Seberang Jaya Hospital nurses cleaned the baby before rushing her to the hospital.
“The baby must have been feeling very cold. She was left totally naked, with no cover or anything. The bag had water with traces of blood in it.
“The baby probably had to endure the rain and was bitten by mosquitoes throughout the night,” said a source who declined to be named.
North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Azmi Adam said the case was being investigated.
“We have sent the baby to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for medical assessment. The baby seems to be healthy and in stable condition,” he said.
