[VIDEO] Van Rams Into DragonAir Plane About To Take-Off For Penang With 265 People Onboard
KUALA LUMPUR: An unusual accident which was caught on video took place yesterday as a van drove straight into the plane's engine at the Hong Kong International Airport on Thursday afternoon.
Apple Daily reports that flight KA691 was preparing to depart for Penang at around 4pm when a China Aircraft Services van collided with the plane's left engine.
From the footage of the incident, it shows the van driving directly towards the aircraft as it roll towards the runway. However, the vehicle shifts to the right of the plane in time, avoiding the belly of the plane but hitting the engine.
At the moment of collision, one of the airport ground staff rushed ahead to signal the plane frantically to stop.
The van appears to have been dragged several metres along the runway, wedged to the plane's engine.
The service van was stuck under the plane's engine, reports said noting that the van's roof was ruptured and its driver was trapped inside.
The man suffered injuries in the head and shoulder but luckily he was conscious when rescued from the vehicle and taken to North Lantau Hospital, police told the South China Morning Post.
The video appeared to corroborate initial claims that the van driver was at fault, reports said.
Five fire engines and two ambulances were called to the scene.
Passengers were asked to disembark and the flight finally departed at 7.44pm according to Hong Kong International Airport's website.
Other flight departures were not seriously affected, as reported.
