KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for kicking a woman in the back near Jalan Raja Laut here.
City police chief Comm Datuk Amar Singh said the man was picked up in Jinjang at around 11.30pm on Friday.
"We were alerted about the incident after an auxiliary policeman on duty at Bank Negara lodged a police report.
"The woman was walking along a connecting bridge from Bank Negara to Sogo Shopping Complex when a man suddenly kicked her," he said in a statement Saturday.
He said the incident went viral on social media due to a video showing the man suddenly approach the woman from behind and kicking her in the back before fleeing.
"The woman suffered injuries to her left cheek and received treatment at the Pantai Hospital in Bangsar.
"Based on our investigations, the man was previously charged with trespassing into Bank Negara armed with a parang.
"We believe the suspect has committed the same acts near Bank Negara but no victim had come forward to lodge a police report," he said, adding that the case was investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
Comm Amar said the suspect will be remanded for further investigations.
