ARAU: One-hundred-and-fifty slabs of compressed cannabis were recovered when a pick-up truck crashed into a ditch in Kampung Rambai here, scattering the drugs in the nearby bushes.

The driver of the Thai-registered Toyota Hilux escaped in the 7.30am, Saturday incident.

Arau District Police Chief Superintendent Nanda Maarof said the 150 slabs weighed about 1kg each and have a combined street value of RM360,000.

He said the drugs are believed to have been smuggled in from Thailand.

“The cannabis was found scattered at the accident scene and in the bushes nearby.

“It is believed the driver was speeding while heading to Jalan Kuala Perlis-Changlun before the accident occurred,” said Supt Nanda at the Arau District Police Headquarters here.

“Certain parts of the pick-up truck such as front bumper and the boot were found to have been modified to hide the compressed slabs of cannabis

“The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952,” he said.
