The Family That Kiled Together in Tapah, Malaysia

A dark, secret life revealed

IPOH: The 57-year-old man’s reign of terror was said to have begun some 30 years ago when he was a young gang leader in Tapah.
Due to his involvement in secret societies and crime, he was banished to another state. Years later, it seemed that he had turned over a new leaf.
He joined a bus company in Tapah, some 55km from here, and then set up a workshop beside his wooden house in Jalan Pahang, also in Tapah, to repair buses for the company he used to work for. The place is about a kilometre away from the Tapah toll plaza.
He lived a quiet life there with his 54-year-old wife and two sons, aged 20 and 17. But a darker side of his life has now emerged.
Police arrested the family of four on Oct 26 on suspicion of being involved in the brutal murders of at least four people whose bodies were burnt and the ashes dumped into a river behind their house.
Police said the murders were believed to have taken place between 2012 and this year.

According to a police source, one of the victims, a spare parts dealer, was murdered sometime last year.
“His older son used to help the man with the servicing of the vehicles, while the other son was jobless,” the source added.
“He is good at his job and no one thought he could commit murder,” the source said.
He said the accused had debts amounting to more than RM60,000 to the dealer. The dealer was not seen again after he came to the workshop to demand payment.
It is learnt the dealer’s family came looking for the man but were refused entry by the suspect. A pack of some 30 dogs kept the dealer’s family members out.
The dealer’s daughter said her father’s employer had called the family claiming to have received a text message from him.
The text message, written in Bahasa Malaysia, said the dealer “owed people money and he had gone overseas”.
However, the dealer’s family refused to believed the message and informed police.
Another victim, a 46-year-old land broker from Chenderiang, is believed to have been murdered after a failed land deal.
The broker and the accused had made some land deals together in the past.
It is learnt that the victim had failed to pay the suspect his commission. The workshop man had also wanted to buy a piece of land belonging to the victim.
“However, the broker refused to sell his land. These two factors angered the accused,” he added.
Another source said victims were “finished off” after they approached the man to get their money back.
“The family is known to be mysterious and always kept to themselves,” said the source.
Meanwhile, several people living nearby described the main suspect as a reserved man.
“He never mingled nor spoke much to us. He was very secretive.
“In recent years, I could never seem to find him. I was told he was up in Cameron Highlands whenever I went looking for him,” said a man who declined to be identified.
He claimed the man had another two daughters.
Another resident said he kept his distance from the main suspect as he had heard rumours that he was a gangster.

In Tapah: The FAMILY that kills together, stays together. In jail, we hope.

Girl brought to scene of crime

TAPAH: A young girl was brought to the scene of the workshop where a family of four were arrested for a string of gruesome murders.
The girl, accompanied by police officers, came to the scene at about 3pm yesterday as policemen and a forensic team were combing the area for more evidence.
State deputy crime chief Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said the girl was merely a witness.
He denied that the police had arrested more people, including the two daughters of the main suspect.
“The number of those arrested remains at four. It is also untrue that the suspect’s daughter tipped off police,” he added.

Family unable to accept possible fate of land broker

TAPAH: Relatives of a missing land broker, believed to be one of four murder victims of a family of four, are finding it hard to accept that he could be dead.
Sukhvinderjit Singh, 19, said his family had not received any confirmation from the police that his uncle Jasbeer Singh was among the four victims whose remains were found on the grounds of a secluded workshop in Jalan Pahang, near the North-South Expressway exit here.
Jasbeer’s disappearance on Aug 28 led police to the wooden house, where it is believed the victims were beaten to death, their remains burnt and ashes scattered in a nearby river.
It is also believed some of the victims could have been caged and chopped into pieces before being burned and fed to a pack of some 30 dogs reared by the family.
“We sort of put bits of information together that it could be my uncle although we hope it isn’t him.

Foul smell from mechanic’s shop raised suspicions
By Farahin Mh Noor
farahin@mmail.com.my

TAPAH — A scrapyard operator said an awful smell had come from the mechanic shop-cum-house occupied by the mechanic and his family last year but that his neighbour had said it was from tyres being burnt.
The man in his 50s said he was suspicious about the explanation but did not take the matter any further.
“He told me he was burning tyres but I suspected something amiss but dropped the matter,” he said.
The businessman, who has been living there for 10 years, said he knew very little about the mechanic and his family although their paths occasionally crossed.
“Just like other villagers, we seldom talked to each other, but whenever we met, we chatted,” he said.
The mechanic’s landlord, who only wanted to be known as Lan, said he had been renting the house to the mechanic since 2002.
He said the man was generally unsociable and did not talk to neighbours.
“I would only pay him a visit to collect the monthly rental which he would not pay sometimes. I would usually let him pay later as he complained he was always short of money,” he said.
Lan said a large pack of dogs always guarded the house, which he found peculiar.

Four murders, bodies burnt and dumped in river

IPOH: Four people were murdered, their bodies burnt and their ashes and bones thrown into a river at a workshop in Tapah near here.
The murders started with a 57-year-old man who was reported missing on Oct 30, 2012. After that, a tour bus operator, 56, went missing on March 1, 2014 followed by a vehicle spare parts dealer, 54, also last year.
The latest in the murders was a 46-year-old land broker, who was reported missing by his son on Aug 25 after he left the house in Kampung Sungai Lah, Chenderiang in the morning and never returned.
Perak deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the victims were murdered and their bodies burnt at the workshop in Tapah. Their ashes and bones were later thrown into a river to conceal the murders.
Police now believe that they have solved the murders in connection with the missing persons reports on the four.
On Oct 26, they nabbed a family comprising a 57-year-old mechanic, his wife, 54, and their two children aged 17 and 20, at their house in Tapah, some 55km from here.
DCP Hasnan said the murders were believed to have taken place between 2012 and this year.

Bongkar Misteri Orang Hilang Di Tapah
